Gail Bradbard, Cabot House Furniture & Design Interior Designer, first designed her client’s primary home in MA. When they later bought their vacation home in Wells, Maine, they didn’t think twice about reaching out again. Together with their contractor, Gail transformed their three bedroom house into a comfortable, family vacation retreat. By bringing the rich tones of the Atlantic Ocean indoors, she carried the coastal hues, textures, and motifs throughout.
Gail added custom cerulean upholstery with the owner’s antique Eames chair passed down from her father.
Before creating floor plans, Gail walked the property and took photos. She found a traditional and heavy design and an unfinished attic and basement.
Gail envisioned a lighter space with a calm, relaxed, coastal feel. She wove together aqua, pale green, and teal with soothing neutral tones to create a calm and serene feel. From floor coverings to window treatment, upholstery fabrics to furniture, lighting to tiles and fireplace stone, Gail expertly wove the relaxed coastal theme throughout.
Gail started from scratch. Especially when envisioning the unfinished spaces, she visualized a new look and provided her clients several fabric and furniture choices to be sure they loved everything. She created floor plans and moodboards and provided fabric swatches. Working with their reliable and trustworthy contractor kept the project on schedule.
Gail’s clients asked her to create a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe. They wanted a space everyone could relax in including their new grandchild. Because of the beloved family dog, Gail chose performance fabrics for easy maintenance and durability and recommended her clients purchase an additional warranty to ensure their investment.
A blue lacquered table with blue upholstered chairs with white piping, a chest, and artwork from local galleries created a comfortable and livable space. Indigo ceramic plates placed creatively on the wall extend the eye toward the high ceiling.
Gail studied the blueprints and together with her clients chose to renovate every room including the balcony. She added an entry to the kitchen hall, opened the living room, and added columns.
Gail chose the cabinets, lighting, paint colors, and backsplash tile for the kitchen.
She gave the dining area adjacent to the kitchen a fresh look with a modern farmhouse dining table and chairs, minimal window treatment to let natural light in, local artwork on grayish blue walls, an overhead light fixture, and a coordinating gray and white modern rug.
Gail designed the upstairs master bedroom in blue hues.
She weaved together textures and patterns and added local artwork for a relaxed vacation feel.
Gail worked with the contractor to finish the attic with a fireplace. She chose a large sectional and comfortable family lounge chair and built-in shelving.
A brown sectional with extra pillows, a pair of upholstered chairs with matching ottoman, and an extra large round, tufted teal leather ottoman make the room ready for family movie nights and get-togethers.
The space is modern, fun, and cozy with soft gray paint on the walls and blue and white checked pillows on the large comfortable brown sectional.
Collaborating with clients to create bespoke interiors is Gail’s favorite part of every project.
