Inspired by the natural world, Cabot House Designer Melonie Montiero’s thoughtful design for this family retreat in Marion, MA. showcases an easy elegance and coastal aesthetic. From conception to completion, the close collaboration between Melonie and her client produced an authentic and timeless design.
Melonie first met her clients in our West Warwick showroom so they could sit on sofas, sectionals, and chairs for comfort and styling. She then drew sketches and floor plans to help them visualize what the finished spaces would look like.
Custom furnishings and fabrics in this light filled family room create a cohesive coastal palette of warm and sandy neutrals with calming ocean blues. The woven backs on the wing chairs bring texture and the durable natural navy sisal rug anchors the room. Melonie added red decorative pillows for pops of color. She also balanced her client’s sophisticated taste with her husband and children’s desire for comfort.
In the library, Melonie created another comfortable space to relax with a navy blue and crisp white aesthetic. She chose a pair of Lee chairs and a matching ottoman, a mahogany Baker table, and for continuity, the same durable navy sisal rug she chose for the living room.
Melonie wove the color blue throughout bringing the natural world indoors. She chose comfortable Lee dining chairs with a family friendly water resistant Sunbrella performance fabric that wears well with children, pets, sun, and wear and tear from daily life to ensure low maintenance and durability. The window treatment in white, taupe, and navy and the navy rug complete the design. These finishing touches add depth and detail.
In the kitchen, Melonie chose comfortable cream upholstered dining chairs with navy blue piping. The chairs coordinate with those in the dining room which are navy with white piping. The navy blue accent wall frames the space and adds a dash of color.
The second floor family room is another leisure space for this active family to enjoy. Melonie created welcoming, family friendly multi-use spaces without compromising on style. This space features patterns and textures including the light gray sofa has white piping and contrasting pillows. The cognac leather ottoman and bronze light fixture wrapped with rope give a casual, yet stylish feel to the room.
The blue, white, and taupe coastal look is carried inside and out. In the master bedroom, soft fabrics like the chenille on the Century chaise add to the soothing aesthetic. The king size bed is a statement piece and the bold rug anchors the room.
Melonie designed the outdoor living areas to enhance the beautifully landscaped patio and pool for al fresco dining, barbecues, family fun and entertaining.
Melonie sourced from several of our curated designer lines including Anacara, Bernhardt, Bertanie, Century, Gloster, Hancock & Moore, Jessica Charles, Lee, Palecek, and Vanguard. She used Visual Comfort for lighting and Landry & Arcari for rugs.
